Plenty is being done to penalize uninsured drivers — or, rather, to keep drivers from being uninsured in the first place. Now, yes, sometimes it is hard to even think about paying car insurance premiums when money is tight and you are having a problem making mortgage payments, house payments, when it is hard to buy food for your family. But when you drive without insurance, you are putting both yourself and every other driver you ever pass at risk.
Recognizing this, most states are putting into place systems and/or legislation designed to keep drivers from being uninsured. For instance, your tags may get canceled if you lapse on your auto insurance policy, making it illegal to drive your vehicle. Doing this can lead to fines, jail time, and the suspension of your license.
There is also legislation in the works designed to create even harsher penalties for drivers who do not have insurance.

Drivers who are either uninsured or severely under insured cause a lot of problems. They are problematic for car insurance companies, of course — that almost goes without saying. But what the average consumer may not realize is that they are also a problem for drivers who do have insurance. The number of uninsured drivers in each state varies greatly; for example, in New Mexico, an astonishing twenty nine percent of all drivers are uninsured, while only one percent of the drivers in Massachusetts are uninsured. In theory, the latter sounds good, but the sheer number of uninsured drivers in the United States alone is not only staggering but scary — and the numbers are rising at an alarming rate, due to the still somewhat unstable state of the economy.
So what harm do these uninsured drivers pose? And what is being done about this problem?

You need to make sure you have enough time to make your trip when you intend to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday. It is best to leave on the day before, as early as you can. If you are unable to leave early, then at least try to start traveling after the end of rush hour traffic. It is also best that you not travel directly after getting off work. Make sure you have some time to relax, even eat a meal, before hitting the road.
Why? Because that way, you are less likely to indulge in any episodes of road rage or aggression. That will not only keep you safe, it will also make sure you do not have to file any insurance claims because of a senseless accident.

Now that we have talked about driving safely, the next step is to talk about the car itself. Did you know that your car insurance premium can be directly affected by your choice of car? For example, if you buy a sports car, you are probably going to have a really, really high premium versus buying a low-profile car? Well, I didn’t know that until I got a Mustang and my car insurance premium went through the friggin’ roof.
Cars are actually rated on a risk scale for all the car insurance company purposes. Sports cars and other high-performance flashy cars are all going to be higher risk … not just for speeding tickets but for people to steal and all around, they are a risk. So you want to make sure that you pick a low-profile car.
If you just pick a non-sports car, I can promise that you will be able to get a lower premium and it will save you a heck of a lot of money!

One of the most expensive bills that you probably have is your car insurance bill. The weirdest thing about car insurance is that many people never really have to use it, but you have to have it on your car – so how can you save money on your car insurance? Well, I can tell you that I have followed a plan and I have saved hundreds and you can do the same thing!
The first thing that you have to do is actually drive safely. This is by far one of the biggest things that people do not remember about car insurance, is that if you drive safely and have a clean driving record, you are most likely going to have a lower premium, which is what everyone wants.
In the next blog, we are going to talk about the risk scale and how buying a low-profile car can really help your premium in the end!

How else can you keep the cost of new car insurance down. Well, for one thing, you have to be responsible. Specifically, you need to make sure you are a safe driver. Pair a new, high risk car with a bad driving record, and you are going to pay out the nose — if you are approved for a policy in the first place.
You need to be honest about your driving record as well. If you have gotten a speeding ticket or something, be up front about it. The insurance company will find out, and if they discover that you have lied, then your application may be rejected.
Try to choose a car with a somewhat lower profile. This is important. You can get a new car, but try not to get one that sends up a bunch of red flags.
