You also need to be aware that, quite often, in the scheme of things, the minimum requirement for car insurance put into place by your state is not important. This is definitely one case where it is typically better to err on the side of caution, so you should not automatically assume that the minimum requirement in your state will provide enough coverage.
Remember, you may be left paying a surprisingly high amount if you are in an accident where the damages surpass that limitation. Accidents happen, and you can pretty much bet that you will not always suffer a “minimum amount” of damage.
So, for that reason, you may want to think about investing in an umbrella policy. These policies are not incredibly expensive, and both you and your assets will be protected — just in case.

A lot of drivers do not understand all that there is to know about their car insurance deductibles and their car insurance premiums. Understanding these factors is imperative if you do not want to make any financially devastating, bank account draining mistakes when you are choosing the right policy.
Primarily, it is vital that you understand the relationship between your premium and your deductible. To put it quite simply, an inverse relationship exists between them. In other words, if you have a higher deductible, then you will have a lower premium. By the same token, if you have a lower deductible, then you will conversely have a higher premium.
If you choose to keep a high deductible, then your premiums will be lower. This will allow you to use the mounting difference as savings, so it can later be used for your deductible, should the need arise.

The type of car insurance you will be getting is also tricky — there are lots of mistakes you need to avoid in that area. For instance, some agents will try to make you think that you have to get the same kind of policy for all of the cars you are insuring, but that simply is not true. Falling prey to that can cost you a lot more money, in fact. The thing to remember is that, by and large, an older car does not need full coverage. Comprehensive coverage, collision coverage — those really are not necessary for an older model.
You can generally go by this rule: if the total value of your car comes out to less than about ten times the cost of your premiums, you do not need that coverage.

Although most of us are understandably eager to get the best possible deal on our car insurance rates, you cannot be too eager, otherwise you might make some common but easily avoidable mistakes.
A lot of times, it is tempting to sort of … fib about your driving history. A couple of little white lies never hurt anyone, right? Wrong! In fact, lying about anything on your driving history can hurt you quite a lot — it can, in fact, cause your insurance applications to get rejected altogether, and no one wants that.
You have to be honestly. Remember, any car insurance company worth its salt is going to verify all the information you give it on your application. If a company discovers that you have lied about a ticket or other traffic violation, it can do worse than simply reject you. A little lie may also cause you to get reclassified as a high risk, so it will be well nigh impossible to get affordable coverage at all.

As mentioned in the last blog, understanding your car insurance policy is something that is so important. For example, did you know what Property-Damage Liability Coverage is? Probably not, as many policy holders do not know exactly what this particular coverage does. What you should know is that Property-Damage Liability Coverage actually covers any property damage or car damage that you car does if you are in an accident – that is what makes this coverage so interesting.
Property-Damage Liability Coverage is something that everyone has within their car insurance policy, but what happens if you are not the person that is driving the car and your friend who borrowed your car gets into an accident with it – with Property-Damage Liability Coverage your insurance company will still pay for the damages and if your friend is an authorized driver, you will be all set!
Property-Damage Liability Coverage is an excellent coverage within your car insurance policy and it is something that you should read up on.

You’d be surprise just how many people do not know just how much insurance are covered in your car insurance policy. For example, did you know that you need to have body injury insurance included in your car insurance but do you know exactly what it is? Well, this coverage is actually mandatory in most states and it is actually the insurance that pays any lost wages, treatment, medical bills and/or funeral costs should you kill or injury anyone with your car.
This is coverage that you absolutely should have and you need to understand whenever you are dealing with car insurance. That way if you get hit by someone’s car, you can collect on their body injury coverage and all of your medical bills will be covered by their car insurance …which is good if you do not have health insurance.
Understanding your car insurance policy is something that everyone should do – that is what we are going to teach you in the next blog too when we cover property-damage liability coverage!

A lot of components of the classic or collector’s car must be considered as well. In a lot of ways, classic car insurance can be similar to regular car insurance, because a lot of times, you need to have coverage for bodily injury, medical, liability, and things of that nature.
You may decide on an Agreed Value insurance policy, which is the best protection you can get for your classic car. You and the insurance company come to an agreement concerning the value of the car and you pay a premium.
Stated Value insurance is another policy. Here, you can state a value to your car that can be higher than its book value, but it cannot be the actual value of your car.
Actual Cash Value insurance is the least desirable, because it leaves most of the decisions in the insurance company’s hands.

As briefly mentioned, classic car insurance comes with a lot of requirements and specifications, especially when you are talking about the car as a collector’s item. A lot of these restrictions have to do with the drivers. So, we are going to give those specs a more in depth look.
There is an age requirement. Teens are not allowed to have this type of insurance because drivers must be at least twenty five in some states and at least thirty in others. In all cases, a clean driving record is a must.
Mileage limitations represent another restriction. Usually they cannot be driven more than twenty five hundred miles a year. Storage is important as well — you better have somewhere to put your car, and you cannot use it to transport goods or even other passengers most of the time.

No matter how they are classified, classic cars are an investment, and if you own one, then naturally you want to protect that investment.
You need to be aware of all stipulations, requirements, and everything in the fine print when it comes to a classic car insurance policy. Your car, for example, may not be allowed to be parked in either a car port or a yard. Fully enclosed and securely locked garages are necessary instead.
As the driver of the car, you will have to meet some specific and special requirements yourself. Your driving record should be clean and typically, you have to have at least ten years worth of driving experience.
Still, this is a great way to protect your investment, especially if you care more about your car’s value as a collector’s item.

A lot of classic car enthusiasts are not sure what they should do about insuring their classic or vintage vehicles. Typically, these cars have more value as a collector’s item, as opposed to their value as an actual vehicle. Still, owners of these cars certainly do want to protect that value.
The kind of insurance you get for a classic car is not the same as what you get on your personal vehicle.
The first thing you need to do is figure out if your classic vehicle can be classified as an actual classic car or as an antique. There are very different options associated with each classification.
You also need to think about exactly how you put your car to use and how often you do so. Under the typical classic car insurance policy, you will be allowed to drive your classic car to certain exhibits, parades, and other such events — but that means you can only drive a specific number of miles every year.
